William Donald Wright Sr., 84, a native of Marshall County, TN, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2024 at the Alive Hospice Residence in Murfreesboro, TN.
Born on June 10, 1939 to William Collins Wright and Josephine McCrory Wright, Don grew up in Cornersville, TN and graduated from Cornersville High School, Martin College, and University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy.
From an early age, he knew he wanted to be a pharmacist and dedicated his professional life to it, co-owning Wright’s Pharmacy in Mt. Pleasant, TN, and the H&S Pharmacies in Marshall County.
He deeply believed in serving his community and was a proud member of the Rotary Club (Paul Harris Fellow), Marshall County Election Commission, Elks Club, and other organizations. He also served on the Board of Directors of First Farmers Bank.
He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, serving in various capacities, as well as teaching a Sunday School class for many years. He would often reflect on his life and the changing world in terms of parables and the life of Jesus.
He was grateful for the enormous amount of support from friends, family, and community throughout years of health issues. Don displayed an incredible amount of strength, courage, and resilience as he faced battles with cancer, accidents, immobility, and vision problems. He faced each of these challenges with his profound faith and characteristic humor. He never let illness or infirmity define him or stop him from enjoying life.
Don was passionate about athletics, spending countless hours watching the UT Vols and Tennessee Titans. In later years, he loved to solve puzzles and play strategy games to keep his mind sharp, which it was to the end.
He is survived by his loving family, wife of 61 years, Marilyn Hunt Wright, daughters Leanna Wright (Andrew) and Bethany Tillman (Bill), and son Will Wright (Eileen), grandchildren Haley Cole (Patrick), Tyler Wright, Mary Collins Tillman, and Benton Wright, and great grandson, Beckett Cole as well as dear cousins Sandra Wolaver and Larry Haislip.
It was an extraordinary life and he will be dearly missed.
