Sarah 'Kip' Margaret Orr, 100, of Belfast, TN died May 19, 2019 at NHC Lewisburg.
Sarah was born May 29, 1918, the only child of Daisy Orr and Robert Knox Orr, who predeceased her. With a lineage of pioneer Belfast families, and deep roots in Marshall County, she was part owner of Tate's Store in Belfast. Her nickname, 'Kip' was given to her by her female cousins after they read from author Rudyard Kipling. Sarah graduated from Belfast School and went to work for Alford's Pharmacy in Lewisburg where she served for over 40 years. Generations of Marshall Countians fondly recall the sweet and gentle lady who waited on them selecting cards and gifts.
Miss Sarah was a lifelong member of Belfast Presbyterian Church. Her service to both church and community was inspired by her love of Jesus Christ. She served as Elder and clerk of Session, Leader of Presbyterian Women and Bible teacher. Kip was the respected leader of the congregation for many years.
No remembrance of Kip would be complete without mention of her beloved cousins, Julia 'Doodie' Tate McDaniel and Catherine 'Cattie' Tate Glenn. Friends since they played together in the yards of the families homes in Belfast, Kip, Doodie, and Cattie were a force to be reckoned with. From Fire Hall fund raisers, to 'calling for pies' for the horse show, everything that went on in Belfast had the approval and involvement of Kip, Cattie and Doodie.
Miss Sarah is survived by several cousins and by the thousands of people touched by this great lady.
A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held at Belfast Presbyterian Church at 2:00 PM on May 21, 2019, with Reverend Steve Thomas and Reverend Jane Herring officiating and special music by Napthali Rothrock. Interment will follow at Head Springs Cemetery. The family will welcome friends for visitation at the church beginning at 12:30 PM. Pallbearers are Jerry Beech, Tate McDaniel, Todd Morris, Tim Morris and Kevin Hendricks.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Belfast Volunteer Fire Department, 445 Belfast Farmington Rd, Belfast, TN 37019 or Belfast Presbyterian Church, 2221 Old Belfast Rd, Lewisburg, TN 37091.
