Michael Leroy Popovich, age 72 of Belfast, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia. A native of Madison, WI, he was the son of the late Michael Popovich and Rose Runyon Popovich.
Mr. Popovich served his country in the United States Navy where he retired with over twenty years of service. While serving, he was a physicians assistant and received a Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Unit Commendation, Good conduct Medal with three stars, and Fleet Ballistic Missile Submarine Patrol Pin with one star. Mr. Popovich received his BS Degree at the University of Nebraska Medical School and spent four years in Physicians Assistant School during his time in the Navy and practiced at the Naval Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. He also retired from Orlando, Florida VA Clinic where he worked for eighteen years.
He is survived by two sons, Brandon (Jennifer Long) Popovich of Charlotte, NC and Michael (Diane) Popovich of East Falmouth, MA; one daughter, Robin (Tony) Schultz of Orlando, FL; one sister, Yvonne Ziegelmaier of Williamsport, PA; one brother, Keith Popovich of Doylestown, PA; ex-wife, Sandra Popovich of Orlando, FL; a special friend, Lucy Davies, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Popovich will be held at a later date with burial to follow in Arlington Cemetery in Arlington, VA with full military honors.
