John Cowden

December 6, 1922 — October 1, 2013

John Edward Cowden, age 90 of 404 College St., Petersburg, TN passed away Tuesday Oct. 1st, 2013 at his residence. A native of Lincoln County, TN, Mr. Cowden was the son of the late Leonard Campbell Cowden and Laura Ada Sorrells. Mr. Cowden attended Eastern Kentucky College and the University of Kentucky, member of First Baptist Church of Petersburg, served his country as a member of the United States Marines serving in World War II and was a farmer.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased in death by a brother William Cowden and sister-in-law Jo Ann Cowden.

Mr. Cowden is survived by his wife of 67 years Ernestine Miles Cowden of Petersburg, one daughter Rose (Chuck) Wright of Murfreesboro, one son John Miles (Derrell) Cowden of Petersburg, two grandsons Tommy (Janna) and Jimmy Cowden, three great granddaughters Regan, Brooke and Bethany Cowden, one niece, two nephews, and several cousins.

Funeral services for Mr. Cowden will be Friday, Oct. 4th, 2013 at 2 P. M. at First Baptist Church in Petersburg with Doug Brown and James Hickey officiating. The burial will take place in Old Orchard Cemetery in Petersburg. Visitation with the family will be Thursday, Oct. 3rd, 2013 at Bills-McGaugh Funeral Home from 5 P. M. to 8 P. M.
