Joseph Joey Edwards Burks, age 16 of Lewisburg, died Tuesday from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Joey was a freshman at Marshall County High School and a member of the Tree of Life Church of Shelbyville. While growing up, Joey enjoyed playing soccer, saxophone, and drums. His free time was spent listening to his music, playing computer games, time with friends and playing pool with his family.
He is survived by his mother and step-father: Tammy and Chuck Peter of Lewisburg; father: John Edward Burks Jr of Gatlinburg; 3 brothers: Jason Burks, Jacob Peter, and Joshua Peter all of Lewisburg; grandparents: Betty Spry and Joe Spry, both of Lewisburg; Myrna Wood of Bloomington, IN and John Burks Sr. of Monterrey TN; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Joey will be conducted Saturday at 10:00 AM from the chapel of Bills McGaugh Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sunset Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends after 4:00 PM Friday in the Dottie Kelso Gymnasium at Marshall County High School.
