George Smith

Mr. George O. Smith, age 82 of Lewisburg, passed away on Monday, May 28th, 2007 at his residence

A native of Marshall county, the son of the late Edward Smith and Mary K. Smith. He attended Mooresville School and Culleoka High School. Mr. Smith was a member at an early age of the Presbyterian Church in Mooresville.

Mr. Smith entered the Army on June 17, 1943 where he soon joined the 65th Combat Engineering with the 25th Division as a Heavy Equipment Operator. He was in combat 165 days on Luzon in the Philippine Islands to occupation troops at Nagoya, Japan until he was honorably discharged in January 31, 1947.

Mr. George Smith is survived by his wife of 59 years, Earlene Denton Smith. He is also survived by one daughter,
Cynthia Mike Haislip, two grandchildren Tracie Foster and Nathan Haislip.

Mr. Smith worked at Florence Stove, Heil Quaker and Inter City Products where he retired after 41 years.

Visitation will be held from the chapel of Bills-McGaugh Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 from 4:00 P.M until 8:00 P.M.

Military funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, May 31st 2007 at 1:00 P.M from the chapel of Bills McGaugh Funeral Home with Reverend Claude McMillion officiating. Burial will follow at Bryant Cemetery in Mooresville, TN.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bryant Cemetery in care of Lewis McConnell at 207 Morningside Dr., Chapel Hill, TN 37034.

Pallbearers are Lavoy Ledford, Jimmy McKnight, Lewis McConnell, Duke Hamilton, Don Jeter and Jerry Williams.

Bills-McGaugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
