George S. White, age 82, and Mary Helen White, age 77, passed away together on Friday at their Lynnville residence.
Both natives of Giles County, George was the son of the late George Alfred and Bentie Thomas White and retired from TVA as a diesel mechanic. Following his service during World War II in the United States Army, young George married Mary Helen Griffin, daughter of the late I.C. and Viola Griffin, Sr. on June 25, 1948. Though she worked outside the home early in life, Helen made her life's work in the home as a loving wife and mother of their two children, Judith Ann and G.A.
Together they were one. Apart, George enjoyed woodworking and farming, while Helen loved needlework and cooking. As they grew older, her health began to fail, but George, true to his vows, cared for her needs and was with her at all times.
In addition to their children, Judy of Springville, TN and G.A. of Lewisburg, they are survived by their grandchildren: Connie and Jacob White. George is survived by two sisters: Jane Shilling of Silver City, NM and Sara Louise Burney of Nashville. Helen is survived by four brothers: Alvin Griffin of Ardmore, AL, Harold Griffin of Athens, AL, Wendell Griffin of Pulaski and Jerry Griffin of Lewisburg; four sisters: Jane Stapp of Pulaski, Millie Carroll of Lewisburg, Ruth Johns of Illinois, and Betty Ann Fox of Elkton, TN.
Celebrating their lives together, the family will visit with friends on Monday, October 27 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at Bills McGaugh Funeral Home, with their eulogy presented at 7:00 PM in the chapel of Bills McGaugh Funeral Home by Michael Stiles.
Bills McGaugh Funeral Home and the United States Forest Service have provided for the planting of individual trees in the memory of Mr. & Mrs. White.
