Mrs. Avis Whitehead Hunter, age 90, died Tuesday at her home in the Anes Station Community of Marshall County.
A native of the Caney Spring Community of Marshall County, she was the daughter of the late Louis Hatton and Mattie Neil Green Whitehead, and a member of the Verona Methodist Church. Following her husbands death in 1939, Mrs. Hunter remained on the family farm, caring for the dairy farm, her children, and the home. She was also preceded in death by a great-granddaughter: Toni Hunter in 1999.
Mrs. Hunter is survived by two sons: Tom Hunter and Gilbert Hunter both of Anes Station; two grandchildren: Gil Hunter and Dave Hunter; and 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 AM from the chapel of Bills McGaugh Funeral Home by Rev. Charles Gant and Don Dunalp. Burial will follow in the McCurdy Cemetery at Verona.
Pallbearers will be Mickey Ewing, Tony Ewing, Bob Cathey, Matt Collins, Jim Richardson and Tommy Floyd. Honorary pallbearers will be Grace Ewing, Martha Hunter, Donald Hunter, Mary Frank Cathey, Jerry Murdock, Will Norris and Ernestine Hunter, Edwin Allen, Tony and Connie Scott, Les and Arthelle Finley, and Bill Crigger.
The family will visit with friends on Wednesday after 6:00 PM at Bills McGaugh Funeral Home.
