Agnes Louise Hurt-Bishop, age 86, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, August 28, surrounded by close family and friends. She was born February 10, 1938, in Marshall County to the late Raymond and Lillie Mae Batts Hurt. She was a graduate of Jones Training School. She was a Certified Nurse’s Aide and held positions at NHC Oakwood, where she was once selected “The Employee of the Year”, and the office of Dr. Michael Tepedino, both in Lewisburg and Tullahoma; was a private sitter for Tom Barham and several prominent Lewisburg families, and often worked several jobs simultaneously. Her last employment was with the dental office of Dr. Bruce Jenkins. She was an active member of Greater First Baptist Church of Lewisburg. She was a onetime recipient “Woman of the Year Award" from the Building Fund Program and she served for many years as the church clerk.
As a single parent for most of her life, she was a dedicated mother and grandmother who made sure that her loved ones were always able to participate in sports events and extracurricular activities even if she had to leave in the middle of work to transport them to and from the practices or meetings. She was a faithful contributor to the Marshall County Historical Museum by supplying printed obituaries, photographs, and artifacts for their permanent collection. For many years she was active in the Marshall County Senior Citizens, where she enjoyed working with arts and crafts. For the last three years she had courageously fought pancreatic cancer with her customary spunk and comic comebacks. She became an inspiration to all those she encountered during her illness.
Ms. Bishop was preceded in death by her parents, her aunts Louise Batts Ray and Mae Hurt Batts Allen, her brother Jessie Howard Hurt, her daughter-in-law Donna Kaye Bishop, and her cousin/brother Walter Carl “Tootie” Hurt.
Left to mourn her passing are her children, Edward Tyrone Hurt and Daphne Yvette Bishop Tears both of Lewisburg, and Jesse Kevin Bishop, Sr. (Odell) of Mulberry; her grandchildren Jesse Kevin Bishop, Jr. (Stacy), Lillie Ana Stewart Tears, Kayla Brandelle Bishop Russell (Ashley), Terri Dwencole Bishop, all of Lewisburg; Dominique Antonio Bishop (Ruby), Demetrius Antwan Bishop, and Jessica Marie Bishop, all of Clarksville, TN; her sister-in-law Evelyn Hurt of Columbia, TN; nine great-grandchildren; very special friends Heavenly Johnson and Angie Bishop Sumners, and “Just a Call Away Friend” beloved Aunt Ida Meriam Hurt O’Neal. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Burial will follow in Sunset Park and Memorial Gardens, which is adjacent to the funeral home.
